One thing everybody thinks about when they think about Egypt is sand. Lots and lots of sand. Well, Yes There is lots of sand. It's one of the iconic things about Egypt. Lets face it however, not everbody wants to take the sands home with them. Or atleast if they do it's because they want a momento thats symbolic.
Recent reports from top Egyptian officials suggest that tourism to the area have dropped by almost 30% in Janurary, and suggest that this trend may continue if not taken care of. Samy Mahmoud, whom is the head of the international tourism department said rates had really declined from Russia, Israel, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
While may are weary of recent events in Egypt over the past year, and security concerns become a major issue Egyptian officials are already looking ahead to restore the tourism trade. Some of the plans include shows and performances through out the country. Be it in local squares, churches or performance centers. The aim is to reassure those visiting that Egypt can and will continue to promote a peaceful, and kind atmosphere.
the comical image of the cliché tourist is one we all know too well; loud Hawaiian print shirts, socks pulled to the knee in too short of shorts, several cameras, over sized purse or fanny pack- saying and doing obnoxious and socially awkward things to the horror of the locals. What is sad is that such an individual is more the norm to a degree than not.
One of the main reasons tourists flock to Egypt yearly is to visit the many stunning sites of early human history. To touch and walk along the same avenues as the great Pharaohs and even legendary figures such as Alexander the Great, or even Plato. To be able to carry something of this home is almost a must to visitors, however that is where one needs to be careful.

I went to see a really fascinating exhibit today about Egyptian burial rituals. It was kind of amazing how much we know about death culture in such an ancient society, but the exhibit displayed sarcophagi from both the rich and the poor, amulets used in burials, jars used for organs, headrests and lifelike paintings. In some respects, our knowledge of Egyptian culture, which seems to surpass our knowledge of other ancient societies, makes us feel that much closer—and fascinated. On the other hand, certainly we don’t know everything there is to know about this society captivated by ceremony and beauty, and that type of exoticism intrigues us. Whatever the reason, Americans are absurdly obsessed with ancient Egypt. Namely, that obsession seems to be that of the mummy.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities is a must see for anyone visiting Cairo. The Museum, established in 1902 stands as the heart of all things related to the study of Egyptian history and art. With over 120,000 some exhibits it's the only place to see many artifacts discovered over the centuries.
